Title of the Summer Course

This International Summer Course will convey topics on “Social Protection in the Changing Labour Market”.

Description of the Summer Course

Recent developments on issues related to employment and social protection have shown unprecedented knowledge and policy gaps all over the world. Demographic changes, disruptive technology, neoliberal economic pressure and wider inequalities are among factors shaping these gaps.

In response to these gaps, we are taking part in the global exchanges of knowledge and discussion on the issue by organizing an international summer course on “Social Protection in the Changing Labour Market”. The theme will be addressed in four main topics: (1) Social protection in a global context, (2) Demographic changes and employment, (3) Digital economy and young workers, (4) Current trends in the sociology of work.

The first topic will cover discussions on different approaches and models in the design of social protection. Examples from some different countries will be discussed in broader political and economic contexts. The second topic will address demographic changes including issues of aging population and demographic dividend in a context of different demographic trends. The third topic will bring about issues of digital economy and its impact on labour market with a special attention to the way young workers engage to the changing job landscapes. The fourth topic will equip students with theoretical tools to analyze the current trends of employment as well as their risks and vulnerabilities.
